🧭 Job Overview:

AMET, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Drafter to join our engineering team in Rexburg, Idaho. In this role, you’ll create detailed 2D and 3D models and mechanical drawings that bring AMET’s advanced automated welding systems to life. Working primarily in SolidWorks, you’ll prepare precise part and assembly drawings, maintain CAD documentation, and collaborate closely with engineers and manufacturing teams to ensure design accuracy and quality.

You’ll support projects from concept to production, helping ensure our systems meet the demanding standards of industries such as aerospace, nuclear, and heavy manufacturing. 📋 Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed 2D and 3D mechanical drawings and models for mechanical components, assemblies, and systems, including dimensions, materials, and fastening methods using SolidWorks.
  • Support engineers by preparing accurate parts, assemblies, and fabrication drawings.
  • Manage, track, and maintain CAD data and documentation through SolidWorks PDM.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure design accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Revise and update drawings to reflect engineering changes and improvements to correct errors, improve functionality, or reduce production issues.
  • Maintain drawing standards and ensure compliance with company drafting guidelines.
  • Prepare bills of materials (BOMs) and support document control processes.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Travel occasionally to customer sites to gather requirements, evaluate needs, and ensure design intent matches customer expectations.

🎓 Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or technical diploma in Mechanical Drafting, Design Technology, or related field (bachelor’s degree a plus).
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD and SolidWorks PDM required.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, GD&T, and drafting standards.
  • Experience creating manufacturing drawings for machined, welded, and sheet metal components.
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Principles: Understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with revision control and document management best practices.
  • Attention to Detail: A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail is crucial for this role.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and resolve design and technical issues and willingness to learn new processes.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication skills are needed for collaborating with customers, teams, and explaining designs.
