WIND TOWER

Welding in the wind tower industry can be a daunting task. Extremely heavy-duty welding equipment is required to manipulate and fabricate the wind towers that support the turbines. AMET manufactures complete SAW (Submerged Arc Welding) systems for the circumferential and longitudinal welding of each can. We specialize in single, tandem, or multiple wire weld heads with the ability to integrate multiple power supplies. We also offer complete growing lines with fit up stations and turning rolls.

AMET’s Wind Tower welding automation systems are configurable to meet the specific needs and requirements of your wind tower projects.

THE NEED

The wind tower industry requires very large and heavy-duty welding equipment to manipulate and fabricate individual cans and tower sections. Wire deposition and speed are important for welding tower sections together, so AMET offers single, tandem, or multiple wire weld heads.

As the length of the tower increases, the supporting equipment must be adaptable to accommodate a wide range of part lengths and diameters. Growing lines with fit up stations and turning rolls are essential when constructing wind towers.

Often, operators are located on the end of the boom to manually track the joints. This can be very taxing on the operator, but it can also be less efficient.

SOLUTION

From the turning rolls and growing lines to the manipulator and flux delivery system, AMET offers complete Wind Tower welding automation solutions for SAW welding of heavy parts used in wind tower fabrication. Our manipulators have travel capacities on the column and boom up to 8 m (26.25 ft), so most diameters can be welded. The horizontal motion of the boom is upgradable to precision motion to perform the seam welds on each can.

We offer fit up stations and a full line of turning rolls, including motorized transverse motion, to build complete growing lines. Our fit up stations are adaptable, so they accommodate each can size and each tower section.

AMET offers laser seam tracking and camera systems to ensure the joint is tracked and welded efficiently and correctly the first time. This also allows the operator to control and monitor the system from a remote location, reducing fatigue on the operator and increasing productivity.

RESULT

AMET offers complete SAW systems for wind tower fabrication. From the fit up stations to the control components, we build and integrate the entire system in-house. With over 3 decades of experience, we can provide a high return on investment by providing a reliable and well-supported Wind Tower welding automation systems for years of consistent operation.

Our systems are proven. We have constructed several wind tower welding systems that are currently building wind towers in the US, Europe, and Asia.

One of our greatest strengths is our knowledgeable customer service department. We will provide prompt, helpful, and courteous service to ensure downtime is kept to a minimum.
